Let's look at some modern art at the Hammer Museum, followed by snacks at the cafe!
The Hammer Museum is a free, modern art museum near the UCLA campus, with eclectic exhibits and an open-air cafe. We will meet in the atrium facing Wilshire Blvd. Aiming for Sunday at 2:30 PM, May 21 (was originally 1 PM but changed due to Hammer event - see my note in thread).

I've never been! Sounds delightful, either Sunday is fine by me.

Ahh, tonight they are having a talk about Latasha Harlins, Latasha Harlins: The Victimization of Black Girls but health issues will keep me away. I made a post about her a couple of weeks ago and wish I could go.

They always have interesting programs and exhibits but I never seem to make it so thanks for posting this!

Hammer time!

Since May 28 is Memorial Day, I expect we'll get better turnout if we do May 21st. If no one objects, I'll turn this into a confirmed event on May 21st.

I may not be able to join you until mid-afternoon on the 21st. But I agree it's a better day than the 28th. Thanks for getting this going, Atrahasis!

I would love to go, but currently have to take a Huge Professional Exam-Type Thing four days later. If I decide to postpone that, I'll be there. Otherwise, have fun!

I work catty-corner from the Hammer. While I can't make it, I can highly recommend the permanent collection, which has two Rembrandts and a glorious Sargent. Also good is Espresso Profeta, which is yards away, on the block just north of the Hammer. The cafe at the Hammer is either really great or terrible, depending on the day and which planets are lined up.

Oh, and if anyone's ever near the area on a weekday, feel free to MeMail me. :)

I'm chiming in a bit late here, but I work in the area - hope it's OK if I drop by!

Yes, I hope you drop by, certain Sysoi! And anyone else in the area on the 21st, as well.

I was thinking of bringing a board or card game if we can get a table and want a break from art appreciation.

I'm totally up (or is it totally down) for games.

I would be all over a board game in the courtyard there.

We will change this to 2:30 PM; just got the Hammer's announcement they are having shortened hours Sunday due to fundraiser in the morning/lunchtime: "On May 21, the museum is open from 2:30–5 p.m. We’re hosting our annual Kids’ Art Museum Project (K.A.M.P.) fundraiser in the morning from 10 a.m.–2 p.m."

I'm here, early as usual. I'll move inside once the event is over.

We are waiting for them to let us in, at the back entrance. Will walk through to front atrium once they let down the drawbridge.
