Wed November 2 at 6:00 PM, Original Billy Goat Tavern
430 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
So, of course, first Wednesday is this week, but there's some sort of sporting event closely associated with the Goat and the question is: do we go?
The usual thing is 6:00ish at the Original Billy Goat with a decamp to what's-been-Mother's-for-a-couple-months now around 9:00. Who's in? Who's got a better idea for somewhere less insane?

I was supposed to babysit (so my sister can see Hamilton: An American Musical but then I got pegged for a board thing, so I'm off the Hamilton-hook and out of my board thing around 7:30. So if folks are out and about, I'll probably join up with you.

The Billy Goat is not a place I'd want to be at to watch the Cubs in the World Series, for a couple of reasons. If there's no game 7, I'm in for my usual early evening.

Hey, MCMikeNamara, there's still a chance!

I personally feel we shouldn't let the Cubs drive us out of our traditional meeting spot and that if, Goat willing, there is a Game 7, any place will be nuts anyway. But I think this is very much a "watch this space for updates" month.

I think it is unlikely that I will go anywhere that puts Wrigleyville between me and home while the World Series is still happening, but I will definitely be watching here for updates.

I completely understand but also wonder if anywhere will be truly safe if a Game 7 happens.

Normally, I work from home on Wednesdays and this would be the right week to do it. But I have a Work Thing That Cannot be Avoided. I'm really not sure what my best strategy for getting home is, since all routes to Wrigley are my route home. Maybe I should sleep in my office? There's a shower.

GAME 7 MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

I only care about the game from a historical perspective but I'm planning to be down there by 5 at the latest. I do kind of want to watch the game but would prefer to avoid total madness, for the record.

Because there is a Game 7, my work thing is postponed. But I'm babysitting after all.

I will miss the shenanigans. Take lots of pictures and for the love of God, SHARE then, why dontcha?
posted by crush-onastick at 6:20 AM on November 2, 2016 [2 favorites]

crush, it's a very smooth move having Hamilton AND a child involved in your excuse to miss shenanigans because that means I didn't even consider being mad about it for even a second.

I'm moving my mid-afternoon thing to tomorrow, so if anyone wants to hit the goat early, lmk.
posted by eamondaly at 7:49 AM on November 2, 2016

I very much care about watching the game, but want to coordinate doing so with my wife. Watching at the goat would be especially poignant, though.

I'm at a seminar down in the loop until 5:30 today, so may be able to swing by for a few, even if I end up watching somewhere else.

Maybe it won't be so crowded after all:
On Tuesday night, for Game 6 against Cleveland, the place was about three-quarters full, with some after-work people, some out-of-town fans and at least one group of totally oblivious tourists from Sweden and Denmark.
I'll still get there as early as I can—probably 5:15 or so.

I'm going to make a pit stop to drop off my bike before the game so I can avoid having to ride home through a drunken riot later. I'll hopefully be there before game time!
posted by Zaximus at 11:44 AM on November 2, 2016

I'll probably be there around 5-5:15 as well, but don't plan on staying for long. I have basically zero interest in being in a public space while the game is actually happening.

On my way, but I'm going to vote first.

Ok, well, I twisted my ankle a few minutes ago trying to reach a new pack of oreos out of the cupboard at work, and even though I'll probably be ok tomorrow (hopefully), it hurts to walk right now, so I'm going to just hobble a block over to the train and go home. Have fun guys.

aside to qcubed, no, I am not wearing the dumb shoes today

BevosAngryGhost: [phunniemee] twisted her ankle reaching for Oreos.

Me: Peak [phunniemee] if it involved milk.

B: Peak [phunniemee] would be her getting tennis elbow pouring milk.

I honestly don't know how I'd feel if I ever sustained an injury due to milk.
Betrayed, I guess.

Phunniemee, the Billy Goat staff has expressed much concern about your injury. They wish you well.

If I have no other legacy, let it be known I put "Go Cubs Go" on the Original Billy Goat jukebox during the rain delay so it played right after game.

Man, I'm so glad we stuck it out at Billy Goat. That was something special.

I'm mad at myself for nixing the walk up to Mother's, though. Should've spent more time out in the street.
