violetblue's simulation of the blue, but uptown

Tue June 21 at 7:00 PM, Memail for the address
500 W 125th St, New York, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
I'm thinking of starting a west Harlem sect of violetblue's excellent salon series. If you were interested in violetblue's salon but haven't been attending because of the location, read on!
The format will be essentially violetblue's: about twenty minutes of assigned reading announced a few weeks in advance, then about two hours of loosely structured discussion in person with the same great people you'd meet on the blue.

Major differences: I'll take nominations for articles and topics. I'll serve fresh-baked bread. And I'll do it at the 125th St ABCD/1 stations.

If you're interested, tell me two things:
1. What do you want to discuss? It's helpful for you to suggest broad topics, for which I can find articles. It's even better to nominate specific articles and discussion questions.
2. When is convenient for you?

I'm interested! Will ponder on your questions... I work 9-5 so evenings or weekends have more potential for me.

yes! I have failed recently to go the ridiculously awesome other salon. 2 of them going on means 2x the chances of me making it, and manhattan is easier for me to achieve.

I'm interested so long as it doesn't conflict with the other salon.

I work a 9-5 as well, so evenings other than Friday would be easiest.

What about Thursday 5/19?

Wow, in my vicinity? I guess I should attend. Work keeps me out of pocket until around 8pm most days, so I would be a late arriver.

I was totally thinking about doing the same thing, and have missed a few of these because Brooklyn??!?! I would love to be there.

And topic-wise, I would totally love a do-over of the "what counts as fact" one that I skipped last week

I see enough responses here that I'm going to host this. Fill out this doodle poll to help me pick a time, and (re-)read these two articles from the blue. (Articles courtesy of reverTS.)

I'm calling it for next Thursday 3 June at 7 p.m. Please Memail me if you would like to attend and I will send you my address.

Excuse me, Thursday is 2 June.

Hey, I'm sorry, it turns out that I'm (almost certainly) not going to get home before nine on Thursday. There are two options:

I could send the doodle around again and try not to flake out on you all next time.

Or, since there are at least four people who want to go someplace uptown and discuss these articles on Thursday, you could totally do this without me.

Given how hard it is to get five New Yorkers to agree on a time and place, the second would probably be way easier, if only you all find another venue. Maybe some other Manhattanite could open his home to a few Mefites?

Normally I could offer my shoebox home as an alternate, but Thursday doesn't work for that. Doodle?

Okay, new doodle poll. Thanks for being so understanding.

Super late to the party here, but I'd like to try and attend (although I may be otherwise occupied on the 21st -- not sure yet).
