Sun January 9 at 4:00 PM, Vraktar's house
214 Joralemon St, Brooklyn, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
As proposed by Eideteker in the spaceship bridge simulator thread, let's get together a space crew and blow stuff up! I'll bake cookies.
Probably there should be beer.

Oh god yes. I am trying to get one my gaming cadres to play this this weekend, but obviously more times is better.

I'm going to be hosting two of the best people ever, and we'll be doing something. We might go to the steampunk haunted house or we might go to 3rd ward.

Am trying to get something together in my 'hood, but it's showing signs of falling through. I can't commit now, but will watch this with interest.

(This IS on Halloween we're talking, right?)

I wasn't suggesting it be on Halloween, but if we must do it then, let's have it in the early afternoon so we can get our other plans on.

Hurm. Halloween is technically Sunday. Saturday night is out, there are a million parties that night. How bout Sunday at 4? Plenty of time to get drunker, later.

As for Saturday night, I'll probably do pre-drinks here followed by some bingo party and/or the Cheryl party at Bell House. But that is a derail of sorts.

I actually WASN'T suggesting a date, just trying to ascertain whether one HAD been suggested yet.

Personally, I'd rather it NOT be on Halloween proper, but that's just me.

Cool! I'd rather not do it on halloween either. While we're at it, Nov 14-17 are out of the question too.

Hoo boy. I'm moving next month, which is going to require most of my upcoming weekends in Boston. I'm good for the 6-7th, though.

A November weekend sounds good to me. I assume this will require me to bring a laptop, so I'll have to figure something out there. I have an ass-kicking 18.5" HP, but it's about as carry-friendly as one of those rocks iguanas enjoy lounging upon.
posted by griphus at 5:52 AM on October 28, 2010

We only need six laptops, and it seems more than six people are interested.

Someone has to supply the Main Screen -- like a projector or a big TV would be good.

If we're not doing this this weekend, I'm probably out until I'm done moving in December.

fuq, is that space in tribeca where we had the 10th meetup still available?

I believe it is partially being squatted and partially being converted into a 3D lenticular factory, and there's some renovations going on up top. I dunno, I'll ask. A much better chance is:

We might have apartment space to do this after the 15th, maybe, possibly.

Definitely. If everyone else agrees.

I suggest that engineering be in one of the far-back room and the captain has to shout into a walkie-talkie. Also, when we raise the shields, someone has to run outside and close the steel shutter. SHIELDS UP! clankclankclankclankclankclank.

Also: does anyone know if the space-physics are accurate? If I can't skew flip and bring all forward guns to bear on the pursuing ship ALA Babylon 5 I'll be sad.

Rope-rider, if we do it at your place, that means you (or your roomie there) should be captain, at least at first. I'll try to bone up on tactics.

Well, like I said, I have a laptop. Actually two. One is a Vostro 1710. The other is a much older Inspiron 600M.

I'm pretty sure the 600M can run the software. I'll be happy to bring both. As long as the food and drink items are kept in 10 Forward. ;-)
posted by Splunge at 5:48 PM on November 16, 2010

The battery on the 600M is useless so corded power will be necessary. Actually, I'd think that a corded power source for every unit, desktop or laptop is needed. And they shouldn't all be on the same power strip. Power will be a big issue.
posted by Splunge at 5:51 PM on November 16, 2010

I have spare powerstrips, and if macs can play my SO might loan her lappy. If we can't pull this off before early January I'll make it my birthday thing and we can do it here or in Woodside. It won't die.

On or around Jan 10 I turn 39. EEk. Working a ton right up to New Years. So, I propose...
the weekend closest to Jan 10, we gather and play. What do we need hardware wise? Can the game talk to an ordinary tv? If so, we can do it here (Boreum Hill) or at my GF's (Woodside) or anywhere else if there is a groovy location.

(And if I had brought my baking supplies to this coast, I would have planned to bake my infamous muffins that look like Hortas...okay, you just take a muffin recipe and add lots of oversized chocolate chips and apple chunks and a bit of red food coloring. Turns out pretty well.)
