It's time for me to make you get together again, Tokyo!

There's a high probability that I'll be coming to Japan again. Dates are still being finalized, but it looks like I'll be in Tokyo the evening of November 8th. In the hopes that it becomes real, I'm creating a placeholder so that people can pencil the date in.
If I do get to do this, I'll be working during the day on the 8th and then flying back on the 9th. So that gives me the flexibility to head to Tokyo after work, spend the night there. Which will be great because I don't have to leave in time for a train back south.

Hiya Runes. Without you, there would essentially be no Tokyo meetups! I'll pencil in the the 8th, and keep an eye out for developments.

I can't say for sure, since I'm currently working nights and weekends, but if at all possible, I'll see how things are going then. It'd be great to see you.

Unless something strange comes up, I should be good.

I like! Where shall we feast this time? Anyone enjoy churrasco by any chance?

Urk. Pretty much impossible for me to have a night out these days, unless ... just by chance, you might consider this street a suitable location for the meetup? No other reason than that the photo was taken about five seconds walk from my new front door! :-)

OK, just got informed I'm OK to travel, so this confirms the night of the 8th. Once the location is picked I'll see about getting a hotel room nearby.

OK, well, Runes is confirmed for the 8th. Suggestions on where to meet?

Oh, I just saw woodblock100's post. That's great you've got a space in Asakusa, man! I love Asakusa, but it is basically full of tiny joints that might not make the best meetup spot… but, any suggestions about anything you might know of in the area that'd be a little roomier?

I'm still very much a 'new face' in the area, and we have been testing out places night by night; we're still in the construction stage, and three of us hit the streets looking for food after knocking off each day. We've found some dumps (and some real tourist traps of course), but we've found some good places too.

Nothing I've tried so far comes across as 'the perfect spot for a meetup', but let me talk to some of my neighbours this coming week, and I'll see what we can come up with. Given the vast number of bars and restaurants in that area, it shouldn't really be much of a problem to find a good place ...

Well howdy there Runes and Tokyo MeFites! I'm definitely down but have to confirm the 8th is good...but think it is. Asakusa would be fun too, I love that area.

There are a ton of izakaya that could handle a group on that one back street past Sensou-ji, the name of which I'm completely forgetting, but I don't know if any of them are anything but average (but they are cheap and fun at least).

You're perhaps thinking of 'Hoppi-dori' (named after that local 'near beer'), but I haven't found a real 'winner' on that street yet, and it's not from want of trying! And I do keep trying, because it's our intention with our new business over there to eventually offer 'packages' where people can come in the late afternoon to our place for a print-event, and we then take them around the corner to Hoppy-dori where there will be a reserved table with beer and yakitori waiting. But we have to find the 'best' place first, and that means a lot of research.

It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it … :-)

Unfortunately I was informed that I'm no longer coming to Tokyo. I'm willing to leave this up so y'all can get together again or just delete it and let someone local start another one.

Oh Runes, bummer!!! Sorry to hear you won't be making it. :-(

Well, Tokyo peeps, shall we not take this opportunity regardless, and do something like, say, help woodblock100 investigate Asakusa establishments? Or whatever. But seems like we may as well set something up if we already have some momentum going, since we are overdue anyways.

Yeah, I think we should keep trying.

What time do these get-togethers usually happen? I ask because I'll be at Design Festa all day Saturday and Sunday.

In the past there have been daytime meetups and nighttime meetups, Umami Dearest.

From the looks of this thread, though, I'd say this one has pretty much died on the vine.

I guess I'm a bit late with this, but I have turned up a place that would suit a MetaFilter meetup just fine - D's Diner is three short blocks from my place, and they have a giant square table that seats 12 people easily. Beer? More than 60 varieties … Food is good too, as we can attest from a few 'test' visits. Access is easy, as it is less than two minutes walk from the Asakusa Tsukuba Express Station, and about three minutes from the Ginza Line Station.

Until and unless I hear back from MeFites about this, I'll keep testing! :-)

Wups, sorry, I wasn't monitoring this since I'm not coming anymore. I think letting this one die and organizing another one is probably the best idea.
