Suburban Boston Game Night, Take 2

Sat May 31 at 7:00 PM, Chez Bondcliff
211 North Main Street, Natick 9 and 27 Shopping Center, Natick, MA, USA (Map & Directions)
Let's try this again... Come play games at our house in Natick! Have a beer! Maybe eat a taco! May 31st 7:00PM - 11:00PM.
Bring some games. Play some games.

We have: Settlers, Ticket to Ride, Apples to Apples, Carcassonne, Cards against Humanity, and a few others. In the basement there is a MAME machine with a bunch of 1980s arcade games, as well as an Atari 2600 if y'all want to take a trip back to the 1980s. We even have E.T. and you won't have to dig it up from a landfill! Darts and the world's crappiest air hockey table, too.

There's enough space that we can spread out and have a couple games going at once.

We can grill something or maybe, as I said, just put out a bunch of fixings for tacos. Feel free to bring something to share if you want.

Bring: Any games you want to play and something to drink. Food to share is optional but I'm sure it would be appreciated. Bring a friend or two, just add them as your +1s or 2s so I know how many to expect.

We have two cats in case you have allergies. One of them is social, the other isn't. There will also most likely be a 12 year old in attendance, if you have allergies. He's social under the right circumstances, like if you're playing with him on a Minecraft server.

We are located minutes from Routes 9, 30 and the Mass. Pike, about a 30 minute drive from the city. There's a commuter rail station (from Back Bay and S. Station) about a mile away but times may not be all that convenient. Carpooling is encouraged.

Note: Location specified is NOT actually my address, it's a Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which is also a pretty good place to go on a Saturday night. Before the event I'll send my address and directions to anyone confirmed and arrange for people to get them from me last minute if they need them.

Sounds fun - I'll have to doublecheck, but I think we're available. If we do come, we can help to provide transportation

I think we're available either/both nights.

We're available either night! And we can help provide transportation from Oak Grove station for 2 or 3 people.

Can't the 30th, but I'm in for the 31st. I'm gaming to be +1 with my wife, but right now just me. Now to plan to drive to Natick to pick up the babysitter so that we can drive back to Natick...
posted by Nanukthedog at 3:14 PM on May 6, 2014

Huh, not sure why I didn't get an email about this... maybe only confirmed meetups get emailed? Maybe Natick is more than x miles away from me? Anyway.

If I can get a ride over *stares at jpdoane*, I'd love to come. I think I'm available either night.

Pretty sure there's only an email that goes out about confirmed meetups. 31st anyone?
posted by jessamyn at 2:34 PM on May 8, 2014

31st works for us!!
posted by sarcasticah at 3:38 PM on May 8, 2014

Ok, since the only preference stated so far is for the 31st, and that's also best for me, let's go ahead and call it for the 31st.

I hope to make it this time! I will study films of classic air hockey matches and take on all challengers!
posted by not_on_display at 10:19 PM on May 8, 2014

Okay! Now I'm focused on getting our babysitter to determine the +1 status.
posted by Nanukthedog at 11:04 PM on May 8, 2014

I think we can make it too!
posted by peacheater at 12:57 PM on May 13, 2014

And we can give rides from the Porter Square area if needed.
posted by peacheater at 12:14 PM on May 14, 2014

Alas, May 31 is when Horace Rumpole & I have tickets for the American Craft Beer Festival, so we will not be able to make it.
posted by DiscourseMarker at 8:17 PM on May 19, 2014

Beer is a pretty darn good excuse. I'll allow it.

Though I am planning on making a cheesecake and I think I've successfully managed to convince my wife to make one of her legendary strawberry rhubarb pies. I may be biased, and prone to hyperbole, but in all honesty they are the greatest pies in any existing universe. And that includes the universe where everything is pie.
posted by bondcliff at 10:58 AM on May 20, 2014

Are they better than maryr's strawberry rhubarb pies? PIE CHALLENGE!
posted by Metroid Baby at 1:29 PM on May 20, 2014

Amy says "Bring it."

She did not actually say that but I will encourage any competition that results in more pie for me.
posted by bondcliff at 4:42 PM on May 20, 2014

OK, Metroid Baby and I are going! (Pie.) We're near Davis and can drive a few people.

Woohoo, the weekend is approaching!

I'll be sending out directions in the next day or two. If you're a maybe and want to confirm either way, that would be helpful. No worries if you decide last minute, however.

Weather looks good for Saturday evening so I'll probably grill some burgers and dogs. I'll have a package of veggie burgers too, if that's your thing. I have a busy day Saturday so I probably won't have time to make proper taco stuff and I refuse to do the "ground beef and Ortega mix" thing now that I've discovered there are better options.

If a couple of people could bring a side dish or two (salad, whatever), that would be swell.
posted by bondcliff at 7:38 AM on May 28, 2014

We can bring some chips and guacamole or something. And

Directions have been sent. If you need them and didn't get them, hit me up with a MeMail.

Hey there --- my weekend plans have changed and I am unexpectedly free to come to this. Still okay to tag in?
posted by Diablevert at 9:19 PM on May 29, 2014 [1 favorite]

Sure! Any and all late comers are also welcome.
posted by bondcliff at 6:19 AM on May 30, 2014

Huh, my earlier comment was cut off. I meant to say, if anyone needs transportation from Oak Grove or Malden, we can fit a couple of people in our car. Mefi-mail me if you want a ride!
posted by sarcasticah at 11:33 AM on May 30, 2014

I am going to bring cookies, not pie.

Unless something goes horribly wrong this evening.

If something goes horribly wrong this evening, I am just bringing frosting. So... win-win.
posted by maryr at 1:13 PM on May 30, 2014

Yay game night! I'll be coming from Melrose, if anyone is more or less on the way and needs a ride memail me.
posted by maryrussell at 7:12 PM on May 30, 2014

Oh, yeah, Metroid Baby and I are also another source of rides from the Somerbridge zone, so you can hit us up, too, if you still need a ride.
posted by ignignokt at 8:18 AM on May 31, 2014

Also we are bringing cucumber salad! Which may or may not be any good.
posted by Metroid Baby at 9:59 AM on May 31, 2014

I am bringing a fun game! And some rosemary cheese biscuit cookie things.
posted by jessamyn at 10:09 AM on May 31, 2014

Wish I could make it, but my plane touches down at Logan at 8:30, and making the trek out to Natick at that point on a Saturday night after a few hours in transit seems a dubious proposition at this point. Have fun, though!
posted by koeselitz at 10:59 AM on May 31, 2014

We'll be bringing some coleslaw to go with the grilled things. See you all there!
posted by peacheater at 11:57 AM on May 31, 2014

Let the games begin!

Clarification about the allergy I mentioned in the MeMail, because I've been asked about it more than once:

Stuff with (non-peanut) nuts in it is fine, stuff made in buildings where peanuts are also processed are fine. We just want to avoid peanut buttery things that get smeared everywhere no matter how careful we are.

The Critter won't even be around tonight anyway. He'll be at a sleepover.

Pie is made. Chocolate cheesecake is made. Burgers, dogs, and veggie burgers await grilling.

Ugh, I'm so sorry - I'm not sure ignignokt and I are going to make it after all. I'm feeling pretty crummy and didn't last ten minutes in the car. If I feel better after laying down some, we might try to make it there late.
posted by Metroid Baby at 4:27 PM on May 31, 2014

I totally understand and I hope you feel better. We're here, if you decide you're able.

It was such a fun evening! Thank you for hosting, bondcliff!

I did not think I'd meet so many new people! What a great time. Thanks for hosting bondcliff, we hope to do it again soon.

Weeee! That was fun. What a great bunch of people y'all are. Thanks so much for trekking out to the 'burbs, everybody.

That was really fun! Thanks again for hosting bondcliff!

Yes, thanks for hosting Bondcliff and Amy! The strawberry rhubarb pie was very good, as was the company.

For any who are interested, this is the orzo salad that I brought. In the spirit of all recipe websites: I made about a 1.5x size version, so kind of free handed the ingredients to taste (more garlic, basil, pine nuts). Tried white balsamic this time.

Aw dammit. Couldn't y'all at least pretend it was boring? I'm sorry to have missed it.

I added a few photos. If you squint at them Metroid Baby, it will look boring, I promise!
