Fri August 2 at 8:00 PM, Cardero's
1583 Coal Harbour Quay, Vancouver, BC V6G, Canada (Map & Directions)
On the road this summer and visiting the left side of the country: any Vancouverites interested in a meetup on Fri Aug 2nd or Sat Aug 3rd?
Looks like Cardero's it is.
Dunno yet. I usually leave it to the locals to decide. I haven't lived in Vancouver since the late nineties.

Going to the Storm Crow again might be too soon. When I was year a couple of years ago we went to the Alabi Room, but it was a bit noisy for talking, something I find integral to a good meetup. Lovely food though. I've heard good things about the bar XP (or somesuch) but have never been to it.

EXP is not cool: overpriced, lame food and annoying screens of video gameplay everywhere. Unless you like that kind of thing, in which case it's awesome.

I like zero of those things, so we will strike that from the list.
For what it's worth, I will be staying in Kitsilano, so maybe somewhere out on West 4th or Broadway?

Yes, I'll be in Vancouver then as well! My schedule is up-in-the-air, so not sure if I'll be able to make it at any particular time, but hopefully it'll work out. I'll be staying in the West End, so West 4th or Broadway is within easy reach.

Bob Likes Thai Food is vastly under-rated. Last time I went, got 80% of the appetizers and a pad thai. Man, they have good pad thai. So much better than Maenam. Not someplace to hang out at, necessarily.
Fri/Sat nights most places get crowded and loud in Kits. The 99 bus is super. 15-18 minutes from Kits to Commercial Drive. To Downtown is totally walkable or 10 minutes by bus.

I lived in Kits before, and the #4 bus was my best pal. I am fine with somewhere downtown if that better suits everybody.

Pretty much anywhere is fine for me if I can get to it from transit; I'd like to find some new places.

I likely can't make it, but in terms of meetup spots in Kits, you might try Bimini's. Donnelly Group pub, so Vancouverites will probably know what to expect (slightly fancy pub fare, if maybe on the salty side), but it' also quite roomy inside and has largish tables.

So, is anyone else intrested in Bimini's? Or somewhere else?

I'm in (I want to hear about ricochet biscuit's road trip), but I can only do Friday evening.
It looks like it'll be a small group. According to Yelp (and porpoise), the Donnelly Group pubs (and Kits pubs in general) will be very loud and crowded--not that appealing.
I'm going to propose Friday evening, 7 pm, at Cardero's (Yelp reviews), in the bar. It's easy to get to from either Stanley Park or downtown. From Kits, it's probably nicest to take the #22 bus to the Burrard SkyTrain station, then walk down Burrard to the seawall.
Of course if people want to try somewhere else, I'm fine with that too.

I've been to Cardero's once a long time ago. A little pricey for what you get, but it's a gorgeous space on the water. Perfect for this long hot spell we've been under.
I'd be in for Fri 2nd.
russil, that's good advice, it's a pleasant 10 minute walk from the Burrard station. The 002 will get you there from Kits, too, if one comes along before a 22.

Cardero's is ridiculously convenient to where I'm staying. I may not be able to make it at 7 pm, but I'll try to stop by even if I end up being late.

Yeah, sorry, some stuff has come up and I won't be able to make it tonight. Have fun.

Confirming that I'll be there at 8, in the bar. I'll be carrying a couple of bike panniers, and asking random people the perennial question: "Are you ricochet biscuit?"
