Sun October 17 at 12:00 PM, Sun Sui Wah
3888 Main St, Vancouver, BC V5V 3N9, Canada (Map & Directions)
We're having Dim Sum at Sun Sui Wah in Vancouver on Sunday, October 17th at noon!
Old text for reference: I'll be on vacation in Sechelt from October 16th to the 22nd. I'd love to daytrip over to Vancouver to meetup or even meetup somewhere on the Sunshine Coast.

The logistics might be difficult. It's 45 minute ferry ride, and then, another 30 minutes ( at least ) to downtown. Would be you driving on/off? Because that can be expensive. The last ferry leaves Horseshoe Bay at 9:15.

Would you stay overnight in Vancouver?

Yeah, I'm on foot and have daytripped in before. It slipped my mind that everyone else is probably working (vacation, woo!).

I guess we could aim for the Saturday or Sunday afternoon, but that's at the very start of my stay there.

Actually, I think I'm flying in to Vancouver on Friday evening. I might be free for a meetup then before I leave Vancouver. And it could be I'm springing for a hotel that night anyway.

I'll double check my tickets and arrangements.

Friday evening might work well if you can drum up any interest.

Finally got my itinerary from the travel agent and I'm getting in to Vancouver at 8pm on Saturday. That's a bit late to get a hotel and make a meetup, plus I have no idea what kind of shape I'd be in after the flight.

I'd still be up for anything in the daytime sometime during the week. If anyone wants to do lunch or coffee downtown that'd be nice.

I could arrange a dimsum lunch downtown if that would attract some participants. There are some good Chinese places in this city.

Mmm. Dimsum sounds nice if anyone else is interested.

Are we talking the Sunday or a week day?

I can't speak for helmutdog but I was talking about doing something during the week.

Well if you're flying into YVR in Vancouver on Saturday at 8 pm you will need pretty solid luck catch the 9:45 sailing to Langdale, so you'll need to stay in town overnight. So I am recommending Sunday Dim Sum, save all that energy going back and forth.

That sounds good to me. More likely to have some turnout on the weekend, after all. Noon okay?

I'd be happy to confirm with the date/time/place once we have the place. Did you have one in mind, helmutdog?

Noon Sunday works for me. I can give you a ride to the ferry after, If you like.

I'd decide on a place, but I don't know the area. Anyone?

I've had good dim sum at Sun Sui Wah, which is not downtown (Main & 23rd), but there are lots of other options. Do you know where you'll be staying?

Any decent dim sum place is going to be pretty busy at noon on a Sunday. Reservations and/or someone showing up early are highly recommended.

Sun Sui Wah is your best bet for close-to-downtown dim sum, agreed. There are also a ton of options in Chinatown, naturally. I've been to Floata several times and never been disappointed. (Well, disappointed by my inability to eat everything I see rolling by me on carts, generally.)

Hey, thanks for the suggestions! Sorry it took me awhile to get back to the thread, but I'm in Mexico right now and the Internet coverage isn't great in this hotel (so I took it as a hint and have been trying to get out).

I'll go ahead and finalize this and then if no one steps forward to make the reservation I'll call from here on Friday to make it. Is that too late? What do you guys recommend?

Dang, this is totally in my neighbourhood but I'm out of town that weekend. Sun Sui Wah's a great place for dim sum. Have fun!

I hope to make it. Just to confirm, it's Sunday, right?

Yeah, it's Sunday at noon. I guess I'll just make it for 6 people. Reservation will be under Mr. Filter.

Late warning, I know, but I'll be there.
