I would love to attend - anywhere that's good with public transport is good for me. Early is also more wonderfuller.

I'm a "quite possible". Did anyone page Red Thoughts? Someone also needs to pout at Trivia Newton John and get her to come back.

Yeah, this would work for me. Afternoon would be ideal.

Bosses willing, I'll come down.

I'm +1 with the wife. We're free all day except dinner, so maybe lunch/drinks, or just afternoon? smoke, what is early for you?
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 9:59 AM on April 3, 2013

Oh I was thinking if people meant dinner, any time during the day is fine. :)
posted by smoke at 4:08 PM on April 3, 2013

Sure! I'm a definite maybe.

Any locals want to suggest a place for lunch/drinks? I'm not that familiar with Sydney, so if there's a regular place you guys meet maybe that would be best.
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 7:35 AM on April 4, 2013

ubu is the man that knoweth the pubs. and smoke is the man that has the furthest to travel. i bow to their needs and their knowledge.
posted by taff at 7:37 PM on April 4, 2013

I'm totally easy as long as it's walkable from a station and we don't have to queue for an age. Ye gods but I hate queuing for food.

General location? We did the Rocks last time, didn't we PD?

Could go Chinatown or something, too.

You're the one in the big smoke (heh), Philosopher Dirtbike; is there something in particular you would like to eat?
posted by smoke at 4:11 PM on April 8, 2013

Yes, we met in the Rocks (the Australian) last time. That's fine with me; it seemed to have a good amount of seating. If anyone has any other preference, I'm cool with that too.

smoke, I don't have anything in mind foodwise, although I tend to avoid anything from the sea.
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 10:42 PM on April 8, 2013

We could definitely do that. I somewhat bridle at the idea of paying $25 for a hamburger - how was the food last time?

I don't know the city as well as I once did, alas, so can only offer relentless negativity instead of constructive pub lunch suggestions - my usual CBD fare is not really suitable for an intimate gathering of mefites being confined to Asian spoons of variable greasiness, and Sussex St food court, lol.
posted by smoke at 3:36 AM on April 9, 2013

They sound infinitely more preferable than a 25 buck burger, smoke!!
posted by taff at 10:17 PM on April 9, 2013

A 25 buck burger better be made of a cow with a PhD in theoretical physics.

If we're sticking with the Rocks, how about the Lord Nelson? Good food, great beer.

Otherwise, the Glenmore has a great roof garden with views of the harbour.

Cows with PhDs in theoretical physics? Paying off your student loans by becoming a burger seems counterproductive.

The Glenmore's roof garden looks nice, if the weather is good.
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 11:10 PM on April 9, 2013

I agree Glenmore looks like a go-er. Why don't we provisionally lock it in?

Not for the lending institution. They get fed AND paid.

LOCK IT IN, EDDIE.

PD, will you do the honours?

smoke, their burgers are $19.5. I guess the cow only got a Masters or something.

I was thinking some kind of grad dip or possibly a Certificate IV.

I've heard the fees at Bovine University are very reasonable, though.

Done! Let me know if any of the info looks wrong.

Bigot.

So is the proletariat cow in meatloaf?
posted by taff at 7:00 AM on April 10, 2013

The proletariat cow is combined with the dissident cow and other bovine enemies of the state to produce good, honest pink slime, on which har working party members are fueled so that they can toil for the glory of the fatherland.

So did we get ubu and fiasco and charlegmane and webgoddess and embrangled on an email list??
posted by taff at 3:47 AM on April 12, 2013

Maybe just memail them.
posted by His thoughts were red thoughts at 4:13 PM on April 12, 2013

Can I outsource this to you, my beloved?
posted by taff at 6:22 PM on April 12, 2013

I'm slightly offended that I'm not on this list. As it happens, I'm in Brisbane that weekend and am not available. If you memail me I can give you the list. You should have it already though from my last Sydney group email.

Pity that you're out of town - catch you next time, hopefully?

Taff - will memail the others.

Sorry Uniliteral!!!! iPhones make it difficult to do most things so I just threw a few names out there from the top of my head.

You were not omitted wilfully, and you must know we adore you.

Once again, mea culpa. I was iLazy.

Oooh, that's as close to my birthday as weekend drinks will allow. I do have to pick up a ridiculously large brisket to BBQ that day for the celebrations, but may be able to drop in.

Yesssss..... more attendeeessss.... excellent.

Bluestocking Southerner - you are a mystery wrapped in an enigma. But welcome!

I'm thinking I won't make it after all - not so much because of the weather, but because I need to prepare for a birthday thing I stupidly agreed to host tomorrow.
posted by UbuRoivas at 5:40 PM on April 19, 2013

I will definitely be there with bells on (I've been salivating over the menu all week). I'm wearing a bright orange t-shirt which probably won't be visible on account of the fricken freezing weather, and a light, light grey hoodie/fleecey thing.

Red Thoughts knows me. Oh, how he knows me.
posted by smoke at 5:51 PM on April 19, 2013

Guys, I think the roof garden is out due to the Rainpocolypse. Let's meet inside.
posted by His thoughts were red thoughts at 6:46 PM on April 19, 2013

We're actually on the roof terrace. Blue jacket, red hair.

For the maybes, we're on the first floor in this bordello looking room - leather couches, world domination chairs... Come join us!

Thanks for the lovely afternoon, all. Still full of wingly goodness.

Smoke, we owe you for the wings! Hopefully we'll see you next year. We had a good time, thanks for the nice afternoon.

Sorry, couldn't make it. I was sitting in a medical centre for two hours, waiting to spend three minutes with the doctor for a prescription. Stupid neverending cold.
posted by kjs4 at 6:11 AM on April 20, 2013

i'm so sorry i couldn't make it. i had a few things on that i couldn't get out of, and a rainbow crossing that needed my attention. again. i hope we can meet in the future! and why weren't we invited to ubu's party? we're his bffs aren't we???
posted by taff at 6:53 AM on April 20, 2013

Well, I don't actually know what a brisket is, but I imagine it's so amazing that Ubu didn't want to share.

PD and Bluestocking; thanks for the drinks and talks. I'm reasonably stunned that we just sat around and shot the breeze for 6.5 hours. I had a wonderful time. Hope you did too. Catch you next year?

Everyone else, Embrangled is going to set up a new Sydney IRL event pretty soon - that trivia night we were all raring for last time. Probably the Friend in Hand, at Glebe?

Can we please get through just one afternoon without me having to remove your hand from my thigh, Smoke?

Well, after that story of the gentleman at the airport, and the trouble with his "thigh", I suspected you were just relating the tale in third-person*.

If you wore a kilt or mini-skirt next time, would just be better for everyone, I think we can all agree.

*suspicion.... confirmed!! Those wings weren't the only sticky things in the room*.

*Too much? Probably too much.

I wasn't kidding; that seriously happened:
I had my 'stuff' strapped to the left. I wasn't erect at the time," said Falcon, whose penis is 9 inches flaccid, 13.5 inches erect. "One of the guards asked if my pockets were empty and I said, 'Yes.'"

Falcon said he knew that his interview was about to get a lot more personal when he was led through one of the X-ray body scanners and passed a metal detector.

"Another guard stopped me and asked me if I had some sort of growth," Falcon said, laughing.

Indeed he did have a growth.
Yeah he did.

Well, I don't actually know what a brisket is, but I imagine it's so amazing that Ubu didn't want to share.

It's a cut of beef that lends itself particularly well to slow BBQing. I tried to set it up to cook slowly all night, but while I was sleeping the charcoal flared up & I slept through the temperature alarm (yeah, wireless thermometer geekery!) until by morning the meat resembled a meteorite made of jerky.

In hindsight, I should have prioritised the meetup over fucking some meat up.
