Monthly Brooklyn Board Game Meetup
posted February 14, 2013 4:30 PM   RSS | iCal | +googleCal

Sat March 16 at 2:00 PM, ocherdraco's apartment (#4D)
192 East 8th Street, Brooklyn, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
Our March meetup will be Saturday the 16th. Bring your games, snacks and/or drinks. Please post in the thread what you're bringing so others can make sure they don't bring the same thing, and/or so they can drool over the thought of homemade cookies. December's board game meetup lasted 8 hours, and January's lasted 9, so feel free to come over even if you can't make it for the first hour or three.
As previously, we'll be starting at 2pm.

More dominion and cookies and a vegan snack this time!

grobstein, would you be willing to bring one of the Dominion expansions? I think folks would be very interested to play with some additional cards.
posted by ocherdraco at 12:15 PM on February 15, 2013

Probably okay! I have been playing a lot of Dominion at these things.

Great! We'll be pleased to see him.

Essexjan! You're gonna be in NYC?

Would anyone be interested in Ticket to Ride if I brought it along?

I'm thinking about picking up Tigris and Euphrates, a game I haven't played in a few years - any takers on that as an alternative?

We have TTR in house, so no need to schlep it.

Will be leaving early this time. Will be there.

Will bring snacks. Or if preferred, beer?

Either is great.

I have had strange cheetos hiding in my closet for more than a week. I am extremely proud of the fact that I haven't eaten them.

Should I be only bringing vegan foodstuffs? (if so, I will no longer have to resist the lure of the cheeto cache in my closet).

Bring the strange cheetos! We are not all vegans! I can scarcely imagine what these ones could be like!

Foodstuffs need not be vegan, though vegan foodstuffs are certainly appreciated by my boyfriend, who is vegan.

Bringing Cards Against Humanity. Leaving behind Hoity Toity.

I have like a bunch of expansions of small world these days, if people would be interested in playing that again. I am still a maybe at the moment, but could probably arrange to come by for a few hours in the afternoon.

Also, how's about some spaceteam for those of us w/iOS devices?

I'm coming! I don't know what I'll bring but maybe cookies if I have time to make some tomorrow.
posted by SpaceWarp13 at 11:10 AM on March 14, 2013

Great! If cookies don't work out, you can always just pick something up on your way, or even just bring yourself!

dominion.isotropic.org is shutting down forever today and I'm really sad.

I'm going to miss you, dudes who only say gg when you win!

:( I never really got a chance to use it.
posted by ocherdraco at 1:08 PM on March 15, 2013

It is / was really one of the greatest online gaming platforms ever. The contrast with the official client is stark and tragic. And it's not about the money, really -- the expansions are bizarrely expensive, but that's not the biggest problem. Isotropic.org is designed for you to play thousands of Dominion games on it, over and over as many as you want. The new shit is designed to, like, impress people with bright colors, or something.

Aww, never had a chance to addict myself to online playing. Guess tom'w we will have to make up for the lost opportunity.

By the way: our apartment building has gotten a brand new buzzer system, which calls my phone, rather than buzzing our wall speaker. So don't be surprised when my voice jumps out at you from the buzzer. Be sure to buzz me, Margaret Maloney (code #407).

Thanks for a great time!

But no thanks for turning me onto Dominion. I got home and played online last night for a couple hours and I blame all of you for my lack of productivity today *grumble*

So, I can't find my little sheet that has the list of games we played last night, so I'll try to list them from memory:

In the Living Room:
  • Puerto Rico
  • Race for the Galaxy
  • Seven Wonders
  • To Court the King
  • Cards Against Humanity
  • Guillotine
  • Spicy Hot Sauce Challenge*
*This one was a bit of an improvisation.

In the Bedroom:
  • Dominion, with Seaside
Did I miss any?

Ah, yes. Though that's less a game, and more a lifestyle.
