Drinks and dinner at Bir&Fud in Trastevere, Rome.
Would love to connect with people for some good conversation/food, as I'm travelling by myself and speak essentially no Italian. I'm travelling through Italy for three weeks in Sept/Oct. I'll also be in Orvieto, Florence, Ferrara and Venice, should there be any Mefites around in those places.
Put me down as a capital-M Maybe, since I am hugely preggo. Trastevere is fairly easy for me to get to and waddle around since my partner works there, but considering my due dates are Oct 19th-21st I'm not quite sure how much waddling I'll be up for at the moment :D

And I'm scheduling a hip-joint replacement operation with middling-long convalescence, but they haven't given me any dates yet. Apart from that, being retired I don't have major scheduling problems. Shall follow this thread and go with whatever anyone else suggests, but I'd really like to make it. I've only been to one meetup (also here in Rome when Xurando came through a couple of years back), and it was very pleasant.

My profile tells me mathowie is 13 miles away from me right now. Now, I don't know whether (a) he's just forgotten to amend his location after his June trip to Italy (the text for his location says "Oregon", but the geolocator hits Rome), or (b) like one other Great Leader in the past, he always likes to feel close to all his followers. But it would obviously be great to have a meetup with the holder of a 1-digit account number...

Monday and Tuesday both look good for me. I haven't been to Trastevere for a long time (used to live there 30 years ago, so my local knowledge is totally rusty and useless now), but somebody (romakimmy?) might have a helpful up-to-date suggestion.
Apart from that, however, there hasn't been a lot of interest logged up to now, maybe because of a glitch making it drop off the IRL radar...
But I'm still happy to meet up, even if it's only 2½ of us, counting romakimmy as a half, not because of her visible girth but of her uncertainty about availability for waddling around Trastevere.

I can list some suggestions if you'd like but I am still a major Maybe - Tuesday would probably be better for me as Monday my partner has off and we have been running around like mad with a veritable metric asston of doctor's appointments...or rather he runs, I waddle :P
I'll list some Trastevere suggestions here tomorrow - the preggo is on her iPhone in bed with my feet up and getting over a cold for which I can't take anything :D

Drinks: Freni e Frizioni does a decent aperitivo spread, but gets fairly crowded with all the hip young things early on. There's a bar in Piazza San Calisto that's smaller and quieter (blanking on the new name - ex-Vecchio Gandolfo, ex-Las Ambars, next door to the Cave Canum restaurant). Bar della Scala is also a good option, calmer and possibly with more seating options.
Eats: Pizzeria Nerone on via del Moro does a decent Napolitano style pizza. Dar Poeta is the Roman pizza option. The aforementioned Cave Canum has a bit of everything, not outstanding though. Da Vittorio on Via San Cosimato is good cheap Roman fare. I've also heard really good things about Fish Market in vicolo della Luce, but have yet to actually eat there.
To you the choice, cari miei, seeing as I am the ever more rotund Maybe. :)

hm... Fish Market sounds like a clever idea gone askew. Trastevere is tricky... I've liked Bir&Fud as a casual but not banal place. (Still a Maybe too, but just my 2 centesimi.)

Yeah, I've been satisfied with a meet-up (not MeFi, another group) at Bir&Fud - nice atmosphere, good food, reasonable prices.
progosk: thanks for the warning about Fish Market! It's the kind of place I'd've liked to try, going on the description, but the negative comments were devastating, so you've saved me from a lousy evening.
