We're having the meetup now at the Hop In Brew Pub

Sorry about the hectic rearranging of the Sept 8 event, I had to cancel my plans to host the wine and appetizer thing on short notice, due to a friend begging me last-minute to help out elsewhere that evening. Will have to try again in the new year perhaps. But as there was so much interest in having a meetup on the 15th as well, I'm rescheduling for that weekend at the good ol' Hop In Brew. Arcticseal may post another meetup for next weekend on his own (in which case I will take this one down) - he's taking the helm as I'll be out of town for a wedding. Stay tuned in early November for the next meetup, I'm thinking closer to Remembrance Day weekend.

Can pretty much eat anything. Might be away for a week though as planning on driving to Vancouver as my sister will be visiting us.

Can eat anything (the trick is getting me to stop) - can't cook much (I could grill things - we could have it at a public-park) - but, I would still bring "something". Don't think I have enough taste-buds to actually taste differences in wine - but have never tried ;-) Heh - I like my wines sweet - so, chilled ice wine or ... Port... mmmm... I have a vehicle, don't mind driving/assisting with rides. By September, I should have my yard/deck back in order - I could host.

That sounds lovely. We should be able to make it. I say that every time. As a side note - we were in Calgary last week and went to Kawa for coffee as recommended by the last meetup. FANTASTIC. The Caffe Niko CHANGED MY LIFE. Thanks y'all. We're back in Calgary this Friday coming up and would certainly be up for going out for coffee if anyone is around. Not sure what time we're available yet, prob late afternoon.

The key here, of course, will be weather - if we have poor weather, we'll have to retreat inside. I'm potentially willing to offer my place - we built a nice patio area this summer, although I am not sure we could hold a large group. This is also dependent on how people feel about dogs and kids (we can pen up the dogs, but not the kids very well - clever little buggers keep getting out). I can also assist with rides if I'm not hosting. I think we should aim for earlish Sept - not the long weekend, but maybe the 7th/8th?

Hmmm - NUBS - yeah, if I were to host it would be the same thing - 3-small dogs (who at most would want constant attention and affection*) and 2-kids who would rather be left alone in some dark corner with their internet-drip-feed-minecraft connections... However, between the walk-out basement+patio + upper-deck + main-floor there could be room for quite a few people. Could even split into geekier/movie type crowd + fancy-pants wine-tasters. (...basement is rigged with projector... very-movie-like experience...) * (in theory my dogs are "hypo-allergenic" as they are non-shedding - but... )

I have two fairly big dogs, one of whom is rather reactive around new people (she's a great dog, but can be fairly intimidating if you're not used to them, and she tends to great new people with a lot of barking and strangeness). Neither dog is non-shedding. ...some dark corner with their internet-drip-feed-minecraft connections... Are you talking about the kids, or MeFites? :) My kids are younger, which means they wouldn't be on the internet, but do need an early bedtime...

Early-ish September works for me, the warm weather will still be around :) I have become very partial to some dry sparkling Italian wines, will bring one or two of those. No idea what I'll come up with for food though, probably something that pairs well.

Let's set a date, how about Saturday, September 8 at 6:30 pm? gives everyone a bit of time to get prepared, but not too late. Please indicate yay/nay below, or suggest an alternative that works better for you. Homeboy, please indicate whether pre-medicating with allergy meds would help. Being out on a patio might not be such a problem for you then, and we can finalize the location a few days ahead of time. jkaczor and nubs can flip for tentative hosting duties. My apartment shall be the fallback option. I think we're only looking at 6-7 people at most. Thanks if someone had the mods fix the sidebar issue - seems to be fine now, for me at least.

Having a date helps. I will commit to memailing the other calgary mefites that I know are out there (because they've come to other past meetups) and let them know about the existence of this thread...that might just get us some other options.

Huge family reunion-type event of a wedding? Already roped into driving the bride's photographer up to Vermillion in a rental car? Yes, family wins out - this time ;) But yes, next time I'm not going to pussy-foot around plans because enthusiasm seems fizzle pretty fast. I said the next one will be early November, unless someone else beats me to posting it - I'm on holidays in England/Scotland for October :) So stay tuned for that.

You know, we should just memail each other our phone numbers next time and arrange something more definitively amongst the regular attendees. Like I could do something mid-week next week or the week after, if people are up for it. Weekends I can't do for the next fortnight, and away the first 2 weeks of October on holidays. If anyone's interested for a mid-week meetup in the next few weeks, hit me up with a memail, otherwise we'll just work on more efficient communication for early Nov's event :) -Liz
