Thu July 26 at 6:30 PM, Cambridge Brewing Company
1 Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA, USA (Map & Directions)
valkyryn and I are coming to Boston July 26-27. Let's meet up!
Update: We've decided on the Cambridge Brewing Company at 6:30pm on Thursday, July 26th. I'm looking forward to meeting everybody! Unfortunately, valkyryn can't make it, as he's getting into town on Friday morning and leaving early Friday afternoon.

Original description, for posterity: I'm getting into town at 1:30pm on the 26th. valkyryn's arrival is still TBD; it may be a bit late on the 26th. We're speaking at the NOLHGA Annual Legal Seminar on the 27th from 11-noon, and then I'm leaving later that afternoon. So, dinner and drinks on the 26th? Lunch on the 27th? Both? We'll be in the Back Bay area, but we're not too familiar with the city, so please feel free to suggest a venue!

I would be interested in an evening thing, but I will have to be tentative for now since we're closing on our condo on the 28th and I have no idea what I need to get done before then.

I'm up for it! I think Metroid Baby would be as well. I have not spent a lot of time in Back Bay, so unfortunately, I can't be very helpful with a venue suggestion (even less than usual).

A Back Bay location isn't a necessity, but some place easily accessible from that area would be good, since we don't know our way around.

And evening thing on the 26th might be easier for more folks to get to, but we'll see! If folks are looking for non-fancy, the Bukowski's in Back Bay is near the Hynes, cheap, and has more beers than most. It's not huge, though, so it may depend on the size of the mefite crowd.

I've never been to the Back Bay Bukowski's, but I can vouch for the Inman location having a good beer selection and atmosphere.

I'd be in for dinner, I think.

I can't guarantee the date, but I'm interested. If I can make it I'd be glad to meet you at your hotel as I live very near the Back Bay. And 20 minutes by subway will put you almost anywhere in most of Boston. Are you interested in any particular type of food or drink?

Definitely interested in dinner and drinks and more than willing to cross the river for it. Sounds like fun.

A local guide would be greatly appreciated, if you can make it. We'll be at the Fairmont Copley Plaza.

Are you interested in any particular type of food or drink?

I like local places and local brews, especially cider, but I'm not picky.

The Cambridge Brewing Company is usually our go-to watering hole, and it's not a difficult trip from your hotel. I'm sure there's something closer to Copley but I'm having a bit of a brain fart right now and nothing is coming to mind.

Sorry folks, but looks like I arrive in Boston after midnight on Friday and then fly out around 3:00 that afternoon, for a whopping total of fifteen hours in Beantown. Of which I'll probably spend half asleep.

Whee!

Maybe next time...

Both the Cambridge Brewing Company and Bukowski's look good to me.

valkyryn, that sounds like hell. Sorry you can't stay longer.

jedicus, both CBC and Bukowski's have some ciders.(I've been wanting to try this.) If you're not pressed for time I'd suggest the CBC, as it's a very chill place, and the walk over the Charles into Cambridge (1-2 miles) gives a great view of the city. And you can always take the subway back if you get tired/drunk.

Bukowski's is less than 1/2 a mile from you hotel — valkyryn, you could even dash over for a glass in your 15 hours!

I should have plenty of time on Thursday. That part of the seminar ends at 5pm.

Are there any objections to dinner and drinks at the Cambridge Brewing Company on Thursday, July 26th? How does 6:30pm sound? That should give me plenty of time to find my way over there but not be too late a start for people who are working the next day.

No objections here; that time and date works better for me than Friday.

Oh, JULY. Not next week. Yeah, I can make that.

I am planning a day trip to Boston some time that week, and Thursday is as good a day as any, depending on weather (I am going to be in Maine, but there's a bus). I am not into beer, but am often willing to try cider.

Hmmm. I might actually be able to make this. CBC works for me.

I can make this, and I imagine so can Horace Rumpole. Either day works for me. CBC sounds great.

Alright, I've confirmed the event. I'll see you all in a few weeks!

Just realized I have a conflict on the 26th, doh.

Wait, no, no I don't, that concert was tonight. I had to sell my tickets for a loss as I was totally unprepared to go. Dammit.

But, yay meetup?

Cripes, sorry, turns out I have a work obligation that evening. Curse you employment!

I'm happy planning to come a MeFi meetup for the second time in six years. I remember somewhat what HR looks like; any other identifiers?

Not feeling well the past couple days, hopefully I'll see some of y'all on Saturday.

Mapes: "I remember somewhat what HR looks like; any other identifiers?"

See my profile pic for an approximation. (Described by my girlfriend as, "Personals Ad Snapshot for a Lonely Canadian Prisoner.") I'll be there on the earlier side.

Mapes, for a slightly better image, here we are from Monday's trivia meetup, on the left side, from to back is not_on_display, Horace Rumpole, and then me.

Horace and I are getting the bus, so we should arrive around 6:35ish.

Hey so CBC is packed and we can't get a table. We are heading around the corner to the Friendly Toast, cause they can seat us now. So that's where we are.

Thanks to everyone who came out. I had a great time. Special thanks to benito.strauss for giving me a guided tour to and from the meetup!

It was fun! And informative. I'm going to save up a few dollar bills to someday burn them, now that I know I can do it as long as there's no fraud intent.

Had a really good time, although my stomach is recriminating me for the amount of food I ate.

And tell metroidbaby that apparently you can't add inactive members as contacts. Come back to us, come back to us, you can just spend a few minutes a day on the site, come back, come ... back ....

Yay! That was fun!

Whee! I have returned from my hiatus to tell you all what a good time I had!
