The end of an era: Gapers Block at the Bong

Metafilter's own me3dia had already planned a Gapers Block shindig at the Bong for Friday night, but now it'll be tinged with sadness: Cafe Bong is officially closing in two weeks. Come on out and say goodbye with a shot and a song before a Chicago institution shuts its doors.
Damn - this news makes me sadder than I would expect.
Wish I'd seen this post before I went out last night and was out til dawn.
If you see me in two weeks (I started working from home every other Friday) remind me that "working from home" is not the same as "taking the day off."
Also that I am 37 fucking years old.
That said, I'm about to take a nap, so we might still try to stop by.
If I wake up before tomorrow.

I do feel like going out tonight, so I'm a likely maybe at this point. I will consult with The Boyfriend and maybe we can take the magic Damen bus up there.

By sheer coincidence, I was there last night! Wish I'd seen this IRL before. I was there with a friend who's visiting from out of town. We had no idea the place was closing.
